Dresdner Striezelmarkt was founded in 1434, making it one of Germany's oldest Christmas Markets. The name (Striezel) derives from a local fruit cake that was traditionally sold at the market, and is now better known as Stollen. The market takes pride in its giant candle pyramid standing 14 metres tall, making it the world's tallest.Hometown of Good King Wenceslas and capital of the Czech Republic, Prague comes alive at Christmas. Festive markets spring up across the city, but you can find the most popular at Old Town Square, which has a daily carol concert, stalls selling traditional Czech crafts, a pretty nativity scene and huge Christmas tree.
Christmas markets in Munich will start closing around noon on Christmas eve and completely done by Christmas day - amazing at the speed they disappear. Prague will stay open pass New Years so that could affect your planning. Weekends are worse but weekdays especially the week before Christmas are pretty packed also.
